CJ dares international court

Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva has reportedly declared that he was neither afraid of nor prepared to act according to the whims of the international law.

The CJ made the remark in open court when he took up a fundamental rights petition filed by a lawyer from Vavuniya, T. Gananadaran, on April 21st, 'Ravaya' newspaper in its May 04th issue reported.

The petitioner challenged a police action to turn him back as he was motoring from Vavuniya via Medavachchiya to visit a client at Anuradhapura Prison.

The CJ noted the FR petition appeared to have been filed with the intention of taking the matter to the international court.

He said that his remark about the international court could be quoted if necessary, and rejected the petition, 'Ravaya' reported.
